Italian General Farina new KFOR commander

Italian General Salvatore Farina will take the helm of the international peacekeeping force in Kosovo - KFOR next week.

Farina will replace German General Volker Halbauer.The German commander, who spent a year in Kosovo, will hold the final press conference on September 3 in Pristina. As planned, Halbauer will hand over his seat to his Italian colleague on September 6, in KFOR's command center in Pristina.The Italian contingent in KFOR is the third largest, after the German and American one, and General Farina has experience in the Balkans, as he served in Bosnia-Herzegovina. KFOR now has 4,985 soldiers - 810 are from Germany, 750 from the U.S. and 504 from Italy.
