Kostunica questions agreement's constitutionality

Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader Vojislav Kostunica on Monday called on the Constitutional Court of Serbia to rule on the constitutionality of the agreement on the integrated management of crossings on the administrative line between central Serbia and Kosovo.

Implementation of the agreement started at the Jarinje and Merdare crossings on Monday morning.
"Since the question whether integrated management of crossings is or is not constitutional has arisen most dramatically in our public, it goes without saying that your duty is to respond to this question, of crucial importance for our country and people, in a timely manner and in accordance with the Constitution," Kostunica wrote in his letter to the Court.

"If you believe these directives are in line with the Constitution and should be implemented, now is the time to say this to the Serbian people. If you believe these directives are unconstitutional, it is even more important that, in line with your authority, you immediately make the needed decision to prevent irreparable damage to state and national interests," reads the letter.
"I am certain you are aware that the worst solution is silence and avoidance of your duty and constitutional obligation. The eyes of our citizens, the eyes of the Serbian people are on you and are waiting for your decision," wrote Kostunica.

EU used Serbia to create independent Kosovo

The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) stated on Monday that Brussels was never really interested in Serbia's EU path and that it used its wish for European integration for the creation of an independent Kosovo.

DSS spokesman Petar Petkovic said during a regular media conference that 'all masks have fallen off' and underscored that the EU deceived Serbia on two occasions, both regarding Kosovo and the EU.

The only attitude toward Serbia boiled down to direct blackmail of the country so that it would advance toward the creation of an independent Kosovo one step at a time, Petkovic said.

He noted that the EU demanded Serbia to participate in the creation of an independent Kosovo because the only way for Kosovo to round off its independence was if Serbia recognized the false state, and added that DSS has been warning against this ever since 2008.

The EU never saw Serbia as a partner and friend, Petkovic said and added that this is why DSS has been forcefully opposing the continuation of the European integration.

The EU path will take Serbia directly to perdition the ultimate aim of which is embodied in an independent Kosovo, he said.

Political neutrality is the only path, as well as an alternative political strategy for further development and preservation of national interests of Serbia, Petkovic concluded.
