Vekaric: Report objective, step toward justice

“The key fact is that war crimes have been proven, as well as the facts that point to individuals responsible for the war crimes,” Vekaric told The press and added that it is important that the investigation on human organ trafficking would go on.Vekaric noted that it is important that the prosecutor pointed to the vacuum made by the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY) which mostly dealt with crimes committed by Serbs, and underscored that the constitution of the specialist court for war crimes in Kosovo is the key condition for justice to be served.Vekaric said that Prosecutor Williamson, as the head of the European Union Special Investigative Task Force (SITF), commended the Serbian government and judicial bodies on their support, which means that Serbia has demonstrated it is a civilised country which cares about truth and justice.Vekaric said that it is very important that the prosecutor has focused on war crimes and crimes against humanity, and recalled that the possibility has not been ruled out for an indictment on human organ trafficking charges to be filed as well.“Human organ trafficking is most difficult one to prove. If you find a skeleton, you cannot know if the person's organs were extracted, because this is very difficult to prove, and in that context, the statements made by Williamson are justified from the prosecutorial stand,” Vekaric said.Williamson said that he does not have any information to support the claim that every kidnapped Serb was a victim of organ harvesting.
