"We have agreed today to imlement NATO's new tasks in Kosovo", Scheffer said, adding that theese tasks will involve training Kosovo's "security forces".

The "Kosovo security force" will have some 2,500 troops.

The agreement comes days before the Kosovo constitution comes into force on June 15.

NATO sources say the agreement overcame Turkish concerns about sharing of military information with the European Union, which aims to have a presence in Kosovo through Eulex.
