Kosovo constitution enters in force
The constitution of an “independent” Kosovo – based on the Martti Ahtisaari plan which was rejected in the UN Security Council -- has entered in force on Sunday

The Constitution, written by Washington experts and backed by Brussels, envisions handing over executive power to the ethnic Albanian government, although the UN, the EU and NATO presence will greatly reduce its sovereignty.
It was passed by Kosovo's ethnic Albanian-dominated parliament on April 9.
The Constitution came into force as Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu signed 41 laws enacted in accordance with the Ahtisaari plan.
Belgrade and the Kosovo Serbs are firmly opposed to Kosovo's secession and the EU special representative Pieter Feith ha said that "there could be a problem in implementing our plans if we do not have acceptance in Serb communities in Kosovo."
