Pristina welcomes Ban Ki-Moon's plan

The Pristina authorities, in a response letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who proposed the reconfiguration of UNMIK in Kosovo, have announced that they would work closely with the UN and that their framework will be the Ahtisaari Plan.

Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu, to whom Ban Ki-moon sent the letter with the proposal of UNMIK reconfiguration, said that he took note of the proposal that the UN would perform some limited functions.

"We are open to your proposal to discuss possible practical arrangements to address threats to stability," Sejdiu's letter to Ban says.

Sejdiu said in the letter that the framework for the Pristina authorities is the plan devised by former UN envoy, Martti Ahtisaari which was "adopted by the Kosovo parliament" and which "enjoys the full support of the people of Kosovo."

The Ahtisaari plan was, however, rejected in the UN Security Council and Ban does not refer to its implementation.
