Pristina critical of Zannier’s plans

Kosovo Albanian political leaders in Pristina criticized Unmik chief Lamberto Zannier for his willingness to discuss with Serb institutions, saying it represents the "foulest attempt to legalize parallel Serbian structures" and an "attempt to divide Kosovo."

They also slammed his proposal for an autonomous Serb police within the Kosovo Police Service (KPS).

Kosovo government's spokesman Veton Elshani said any other decision except transition from international to Kosovo local police would be negative.

"Parallelism of KPS command hierarchy would have serious operational problems in the ground," said Elshani.

The vice-president of the opposition New Kosovo Alliance Ibrahim Makoli said that Zannier's announcements were an attempt to "legalize Serbia's parallel institutions in Kosovo."

Zannier said that difficult, sensitive and complex negotiations were being held with Belgrade and announced a proposal that would create an ethnic Serb police within the Kosovo police, with special autonomy in the command chain.
