EULEX chief: Agreement with UNMIK an important step

Head of the EULEX Mission Yves de Kermabon said that the UN-EU agreement on handover of assets between UNMIK and EULEX in Kosovo represents an “important step that will allow EULEX to move forward and intensify its Kosovo wide deployment in the next weeks, in close cooperation with the UN.”

"EULEX is ready to take up the challenges and remains committed to supporting the rule of law in Kosovo," Kermabon said.

The technical agreement was signed on Monday between UNMIK Chief Lamberto Zannier, Head of the EULEX Mission Yves de Kermabon and Head of the EU Planning Team for Kosovo (EUPT) Roy Reeve.

The agreement regulates the handover of UNMIK assets to EULEX. These assets are needed to supply the EULEX staff joining the mission which is expected to be fully deployed and operational by the end of autumn.

EULEX is a technical rule of law mission in the field of police, justice and customs.

Belgrade is strongly opposed to its deployment without its agreement and a UN Security Council decision.
