Belgrade: UNMIK-EULEX agreement test for Serbian authorities

The agreement which UNMIK and EULEX have signed on handover or sale of technical means, vehicles and buildings represents a test for the authority in Serbia, State Secretary for Kosovo Oliver Ivanovic said on Tuesday.

"The agreement represents a ‘trial balloon' to see what the reaction of the Serbian authorities will be, that is whether we will allow the agreement, if only a tecnical one, to be pushed through without any special reaction," Ivanovic said.

Pointing out that the agreement was of a technical nature and that it regulated a transfer of UNMIK assets to EULEX, Ivanovic underlined that the document was not to be underestimated and that the Serbian government should react.

"I think that the interpretations of certain UNMIK representatives have in fact set off an alarm signal that the EULEX Mission can enter the region we consider ours through a side door," Ivanovic said and added that EULEX had a serious problem regarding its legitimacy.

"If not for the resistance of Serbia and a major part of the international community, it (EULEX) would have put this territory under its control a long time ago," Ivanovic said, adding that "those who easily granted independence to Kosovo six months ago now have to find a solution because Serbia is prepared for a constructive dialogue with the representatives of UNMIK" as the only legitimate body for the resolution of the problems of Kosovo Serbs.
