Ivanovic: Laws of "independent" Kosovo will not be implemented in Mitrovica court

State Secretary in Serbia's Kosovo Ministry Oliver Ivanovic said that it was crucial that the court in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica implements the laws and decrees of UNMIK, and not of the self-declared independent state of Kosovo

Ivanovic said it is also significant that the court is staffed only by international judges and that others are not brought in without agreement of the local community.

"It is important that local Serb judges enter that court as soon as possible and that they try to resolve the current situation," Ivanovic underlined.

He set out that the existing legal vacuum slightly resembles a chaos which cannot last long, because the citizens feel threatened by it.

The opening of the court in Kosovska Mitrovica is going in the right direction, but it is certainly important that we monitor the situation, Ivanovic added.

The court was reopened on Friday, after a six-month closing in the aftermath of the March clashes in and around it.
