Kosovo case in regular ICJ procedure

The International Court of Justice in The Hague will not be considering Serbia's motion on Kosovo independence in urgent procedure but in a regular one, the court’s officials have said on Tuesday

This would mean that the procedure could take up to two years to complete before an opinion will be issued.

Serbia's Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic said on Monday that he had received information that the procedure would be urgent, but then backed away from the statement, saying it would be part of the regular process.

The UN's highest court will draw up a list of states and organizations that will be called upon to submit relevant information. It will then hold an oral and written debate.
