"The Serbs in Kosovo have to be protected and this is why a solution has to be found. The important thing is that the mission operates in keeping with international law and that it does not bring into question the integrity of our country. Whoever it is that may take part in the international mission in Kosovo and observes these principles will always be welcome," the Serbian president said.

Asked if it was possible for Belgrade and Brussels to reach agreement on Eulex and that this agreement be approved by the UN Security Council, Tadic answered that it was possible.

"We are working on that at all international forums, with the UN SC, the EU, with the representatives of Russia and the United States , with all those that are of vital importance for the future of Kosovo in Serbia," the president said.

In Brussels, European Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn said on that the Serbian government should help in the deployment of the Eulex mission in Kosovo as part of regional cooperation.

"After the vote in the UN General Assembly, which was neither dramatic nor surprising, all should work together for regional stability and rule of law in Kosovo and elsewhere", Rehn said.
