"The issue of Kosovo's future status can only be resolved in line with  the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1244, which means that Serbia  will never accept the resolution of that issue outside of the U.N. Security Council and at some international conference," Kostunica said.

"Serbia and Russia have a common principled policy based on the full implementation of international law, which is the best guarantee that when it comes to Serbia's territorial integrity, the U.N. Charter will never be violated in the Security Council," he added.

Also on Thursday, Serbian Minister of Kosovo and Metohia Slobodan Samardzic said that Serbia would not undertake a military intervention  in case of a unilateral proclamation of Kosovo's independence, but would step up its support of the Serbs and other non-Albanians.

"We would not use the army to intervene directly, but would keep our  institutions in Kosovo. The Serb population in the province would still be linked with Belgrade, as far as education, infrastructure, health care, and many other areas are concerned," Samardzic said.

"There would be complete parallel institutions. We would support the Serbs and other non-Albanians even more," he stressed.

The minister underscored that Belgrade advocated the demilitarization of Kosovo.

"There should be no army in Kosovo, except the temporary presence of  international troops. We are not threatening to make a military intervention if Kosovo declares independence, but everyone must  understand that it would be an open threat to Serbia," he added.
