Unemployment is between 40 and 45 percent and 29,000 young people entered the labor market while only 8,000 new job opportunities were available.

Between July 2007 and July 2008, inflation climbed 14 percent due to an increase in prices of food produce and fuel.

The report also indicated that privatisation has left many people unemployed as most privatised enterprises have scaled back operations.

Kosovo remains one of the poorest regions in Europe with the highest rates of unemployment and people living in extreme poverty.
