Former Troika envoy revives idea of “two Germanies” model for Kosovo
Former Kosovo status negotiator of the European Union Wolfgang Ischinger has expressed his belief that in a few years Kosovo and Serbia will sit to discuss establishing functional cooperation between the two countries, without giving up on the current stated stances

The German ambassador, who was the EU negotiator in the Troika process, expressed his belief that the idea proposed during the negotiating process for a resolution based on the agreement between the two German states in 1973, which silently accepted the mutual existence of Eastern and Western Germany, could be applied between Kosovo and Serbia.
"Both sides would silently respect the views of the others side but, despite these differences, they would open their borders, would allow people to travel, engage in trade, engage in police cooperation and practical cooperation which would make the life of the citizens and the advancement of the people the main objective," said Ischinger.
The model was already rejected during the Troika talks, but it is often mentioned in Brussels policymaking circles as an unproclaimed EU objective.
