Serbian opposition calls for non-confidence vote over Eulex

The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) of former Primer Minister Vojislav Kostunica and its coalition party New Serbia (NS), as well as the Serb Radical Party (SRS) submitted on Tuesday a proposal on a vote of non-confidence to the Serbian government over the issue of Eulex deployment

Vice-president of the DSS and former Minister for Kosovo Slobodan Samardzic said  that the reason for the initiative is "the readiness of the Serbian government and top state officials to cooperate and allow the deployment of the Eulex mission in Kosovo and Metohija."

The EUlex mission is the result of Martti Ahtisaari's plan, which calls for an independent Kosovo and there is no other mission or mandate that this mission could realize, Samardzic set out.

He added that "there have been several attempts to draw attention to this," but the government  refused to give any explanation.

"Since we failed to force the government to present the resolution on Kosovo and Metohija to parliament and since we failed to agree on the text of the resolution, we have decided to demand a debate on recalling the government in order to get time to raise this issue in parliament and debate it in a democratic manner," Samardzic stated.

The leader of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Tomislav Nikolic said on Tuesday that his party would back the DSS, NS, and SRS initiative for a debate on a confidence vote to the Serbian government.
