Motion for resolution in the EP: Serbia’s opposition to Eulex not in line with its membership hopes

The draft gives full support to the deployment of Eulex in the entire territory of Kosovo, including north of the Ibar River, "which is currently de facto outside the influence of the Kosovo institutions, in order to prevent further developments leading towards the division of the province".

The EP Foreign Policy Committee will debate and vote on the draft resolution text and possible amendments in December or January, after which this document should be send to the EP plenary session in February.

The Serbian government is reminded that opposition to Eulex, as the most important EU mission so far, is contrary to the interests of the Serbian community in Kosovo and not in keeping with Serbia's aspirations to join the EU, the draft resolution says.

It calls on the international community to fully back Eulex, demands a smooth transition from UNMIK to Eulex in the entire territory of Kosovo, welcomes the letters by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to the presidents of Kosovo and Serbia, as well as the technical agreements between Eulex and UNMIK.
