UN Security Council session on Kosovo postponed

The UN Secretary-General's Office has decided at the request of two permanent Security Council members to postpone the session of the top executive UN body, where UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon was to present a report on Kosovo on Tuesday.

The report was reportedly due to the Kosovo Albanian opposition to the UN plan on the reconfiguration of Unmik.

"We have just received the official information from UN Headquarters that the UN Security Council session scheduled for Tuesday, November 11, was postponed at the request of two permanent Security Council members," said Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, who was in London on his way to New York.

Jeremic said that the new date of the session had not been set yet, but that it might be held by the end of the week.

At the Tuesday session, Ban was to present his report on Kosovo, which should contain clear parameters for the operation of the EU mission in Kosovo in line with Serbia's demands, primarily that Eulex be status neutral and under the UN auspices.

"As for the reconfiguration of the international civil presence in Serbia's southern province, we have made our last statement, Serbia's conditions are well-known and will not change," Jeremic said and added that Serbia was "ready for the Security Council session whenever it might be scheduled."

"We hope that the international community will reach a consensus and that this process will be completed in the only way that guarantees the legitimity and sustainability of the international civil presence in Kosovo, and this can be achieved through a Security Council decision," Jeremic said.
