The spokesman for the Presidency Mauricio Arinano confirmed the scheduling of the UN Security Council session for Wednesday.

"I expect EULEX to move forward with its deployment in the coming period and to assume responsibilities in the areas of policing, justice and customs, under the overall authority of the United Nations, under a United Nations umbrella headed by my Special Representative, and in accordance with resolution 1244 (1999)," it was said in Ban's official report.

Ban welcomed the positive outcome of talks on the six items on the reconfiguration of UNMIK and Belgrade 's decision to accept the agreement.

A November 18 statement of authorities in Pristina, which said that Kosovo institutions rejected the six-item plan and urged that EULEX operate in line with the Ahtisaari plan was just noted in the secretary- general's report in the form of an annexe.

The UN Security Council should adopt Ban's recommendations in a presidential statement, which would give a green light for the deployment of EULEX.

Arinano said that as far as he knew, some Security Council members were drafting the presidential statement.
