EU: Eulex will fully respect 1244 and will be status neutral

The Presidency of the European Union has expressed consensus achieved during the UN Security Council session in Kosovo and has underlined that the Eulex mission will “fully respect the UN SC resolution 1244”, and that it will function “under general authority and within the neutral framework of the UN in terms of status”

The EU has welcomed the adoption of the UNSC presidency statement, which allows for the deployment of the Eulex mission.

It has also expressed satisfaction with the readiness od Belgrade and Pristina to cooperate with the EU mission, as well as with the level of preparation of Eulex deployment.

"In achieving its mandate, the Eulex mission will fully respect the UNSC resolution 1244, and it will function under general authority and within the neutral framework of the UN in terms of status", the presidency statement said.

This is, the presidency said, paving the way for a quick declaration of initial operational capability of Eulex.
