Serbian church representatives in Kosovo to cooperate with Eulex

Representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) and Serbs in Kosovo have stated that they would not oppose the presence of the Eulex mission for as long as it works within the framework of UN Security Council Resolution 1244, although they do not expect much from the mission

Bishop of Raska and Prizren Artemije said that he does not expect anything special from Eulex, whose deployment started today, because the role of the UN mission, which was deployed in the province in the past nearly ten years, was to provide for declaration of Kosovo's independence.

"We believe that EULEX is coming only to cement what UNMIK has already done and to fully implement Martti Ahtisaari's plan. My personal stand on EULEX was negative, but in view of the fact that the mission is being deployed with the permission and consent of Belgrade, we will cooperate with EULEX, just as we did with UNMIK, because we do not want any confrontations with the state of Serbia," said Artemije.

Commissioner of the Democratic Party Dragisa Djokovic said that the work of EULEX will also depend on the activities of the local Serb authorities in Kosovo.

"If Serb representatives in Kosovo, who are the authorities on the ground, act regularly, they might be able to provide safety for our community with the help of the EU mission," Djokovic said.
