Rehn: International pressure needed to reach “serious talks”

The EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn called on “all international actors” to apply pressure on Belgrade and Pristina in order to achieve “serious talks” and a “negotiated solution” on the future status of Kosovo.

"Both sides - Belgrade and Pristina - should turn their minds and efforts towards serious talks", Rehn said.

"We have October, November and December - it is enough time if there is political will" he said, adding this was a reason why it was "important that all international actors encourage Belgrade and Pristina" to try to reach common ground.

Commissioner Rehn said that the Contact Group Troika  will submit its report to the UN Security Council by December 10.

After that, it will up to the UN Security Council to deal with the matter, unless a solution is reached beforehand, he underlined.

The EU, Rehn said, was working "hard and seriously on finding a negotiated solution" and was expressing its full support to the Troika process.
