Spain: No solution for Kosovo status unless both sides agree

Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos has reiterated full support to Serbia's territorial integrity over Kosovo and stated that there could be definite solution for Kosovo's status unless there is a true agreement between Belgrade and Pristina.

Moratinos, who met top Serbian officials in Belgrade on Sunday, said that Spain had always been committed to the defence of certain principles it could not give up on, the most important one being the respect of international law, of the system of the United Nations and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries.

"In this specific case, we are speaking of the territorial integrity of Serbia which Spain is defending in line with valid UN SC Resolution 1244", Moratinos said.

"There is no doubt that the observance of these principles has improved our relations even further, which makes me very happy", he added.

Reminding that the position of Spain in respect to international law and the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo differed from the stand of other EU member states, Moratinos pointed out that the solution for Kosovo could be definite only in case that it was to be the result of a true agreement between the two sides.

"This is the stand Spain has always been insisting on", Moratinos concluded.
