Former KPC members protest over not being admitted into KSF

Former Kosovo Protection Corps (KPC) members, discontented with not having been admitted into the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) have protested before the Kosovo assembly threatening to cause trouble in Kosovo unless measures are taken to correct this injustice, the local media reported on Friday.

They stressed that adequate criteria have not been observed and that certain manipulations occurred during the selection of KSF members, and threatened to destabilize the situation in Kosovo should their demands to enter KSF fail to be met.

At a protest held in front of the Kosovo Assembly building on Thursday, former KPC colonel Muhamet Gubetini appealed for the government's urgent reaction.

We urge the Kosovo government not to play with out feelings, not to make us go insane, said Gubetini.

On Thursday evening, unidentified perpetrators shelled the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) barracks near Pec, western Kosovo, but initial reports do not mention any casualties.

The roof of one of the buildings in the barracks compound was hit and minor material damage was inflicted, a police spokesman said.

No one claimed responsibility for the attacks, which is believed to have been carried out by resignated KPC members who weren't recruited in KSF.

The selection of KSF members was made by KFOR. Of more than 3,000 active members of the former civil protection force, only 1,300 have been accepted into KSF.
