Jeremic: NATO no longer enjoys Serbia's confidence

NATO has lost the confidence of Serbia because of its role in the creating, training and forming of the so-called Kosovo Securiy Force, Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic has said.

"This presents a gross violation of (United Nations Security Council) Resolution 1244, which we find unacceptable," Jeremic pointed out in an interview to the Belgrade daily Blic published on Sunday, stressing that the NATO secretary-general expressed readiness to talk about a possible revision of the Kumanovo Agreement, even though the European Union (EU) rejected this possibility.

The Serbian foreign minister concluded that, "at this time, we have closer relations with Russia than with the USA, because there is not a single outstanding issue between us and Russia, while we have a disagreement with Washington over the future status of Kosovo."

"We are trying to cooperate as closely as possible with the USA on all other issues," Jeremic said.

Asked whether he believes the question of Kosovo should be a barrier in the relations between Serbia and the USA, the minister said that "we have the Constitutional obligation to defend the territorial integrity of the country and we will continue doing that using all legal, political and diplomatic means, taking care also about other state interests."

The foreign policy priorities of the country are defense of the Constitutional order, stepping up integrations with Europe, and improving the relations in the region, Jeremic told Blic.
