Serbian Church sends protest letter to UNMIK chief

The Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC), its highest body, has sent a protest letter to UNMIK chief Lamberto Zannier over the action of the Kosovo Culture Ministry which intends to change the identity of the Serbian religious and national cultural heritage in Kosovo by developping an electronic data base.

"We strongly protest over these activities by the Kosovo Culture Ministry which also threaten the SPC property in Kosovo," the letter said, recalling that this cultural heritage is under the legal powers of the Republic of Serbia and the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and parts even under the protection of UNESCO", the SPC public relations service announced.

Underscoring that the participants of the talks on Kosovo in Vienna have agreed to respect the Serb - Orthodox identity of the Serbian nation in Kosovo, the letter concluded that all acts for renaming or siezing Serb holy facilities would be treated as violence and political abuse.
