Ten suspects for killing kidnapped Serbs identified

The Serbian War Crimes Prosecution has so far identified ten members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) suspected for the killing of Serbs kidnapped from Kosovo, who were secretly transported to camps in northern Albania in 1999, Prosecution spokesman Bruno Vekaric said on Wednesday.

"Those identified are linked with the case of decapitated soldiers, which has been publicized by press", said Vekaric, refusing to reveal their names because the process of identification is still in progress.

Members of the Association of Families of the Kidnapped and Missing Serbs and other non-Albanians will be assisting in the identification of victims and perpetrators of these crimes as of today.

The Prosecution has also contacted the Association of the Victims from Montenegro.

Deputy prosecutors requested assistance of the families in identification of the victims and crime perpetrators and in locating witnesses, eye witnesses of kidnappings and murders of their loved ones.

Vekaric announced that the latest evidence the Serbian War Crimes Prosecution got possession of will be forwarded to colleagues in Albania, underscoring that he expects them to start an investigation based on the latest evidence.

In late March 2008, the Serbian War Crimes Prosecution launched the investigation on trafficking of human organs removed from about 300 Serbs kidnapped from Kosovo, who were transported to camps in northern Albania in the summer of 1999, following the release of the book by former ICTY chief prosecutor Carla Del Ponte, who wrote about these crimes after she had left the office.
