NATO will cut the number of its Kfor troops in Kosovo by 2010 at the latest, Kfor commander Emilio Gay said on Friday.

Kfor currently has 15,000 troops in Kosovo.
"In the military sense, we do not need 15,000 troops in Kosovo", general Gay said.
He said he expected the cut by the end of the year, and by early 2010 at the latest.
Meanwhile, Kfor would still secure the oldest Serb Orthodox monasteries in Kosovo following a decision to transfer the task of securing Serb heritage to the Kosovo police service.
The monasteries of Visoki Decani, Gracanica, Pecka patrijarsija, Gorioc, Zociste, Sveti Arhangeli, Sokolica and Devic will continue to be under Kfor protection, Serb Orthodox church officials said.
