Kosovo to join UEFA only if recognized by UN: Platini
UEFA president Michel Platini said in Belgrade that Kosovo could not join the European and world football organisations if it is not recognised by the United Nations.

"The situation is very simple, UEFA, FIFA do not go in for politics... the only thing UEFA can do at the present is to respect the statutes of UEFA and the statutes clearly say that to be affiliated with UEFA it is necessary to be recognised by the United Nations," Platini told reporters in Belgrade.
The prospect of Kosovo becoming the 193rd UN member state appears quite unlikely at this moment, as Russia and China, two permanent UN Security Council members with right to veto, strongly oppose Pristina's unilateral declaration of independence.
Moreover, Kosovo's independence has so far been recognized by only 55 out of 192 UN member countries, an insufficient number to try to change its status.
