Start of second phase of demining the South Stream course from NATO bombs

A team of expert miners of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations have left for Serbia on Tuesday, to begin the second phase of a humanitarian operation of demining objects through which the South Stream gas pipeline route should pass, Russian news agencies have reported.

Within this operation, explosives in the region of the central Serbian town of Paracin will be defused. A team of 46 experts will work in this team, including 37 Russian specialists. The other team members will be experts from Serbia, agencies said.

In the first phase of this humanitarian operation, Russian miners demined the area of the Nis Airport in 2008. They defused more than 450 explosive devices that were dropped there during the bombing campaign conducted by NATO in 1999.
