At a press conference following his meeting with Austrian Prime Minister Werner Faymann, Tadic pointed out that the UN Charter as well as the UN Resolution 1244 on Kosovo "guaranteed" the inviolability of Serbia's territory.
He stressed that Serbia would neither recognize Kosovo's independence, nor "give up its sovereignty" over Kosovo. However, he also noted that Serbia is willing to resolve the Kosovo problem, and could be "very flexible" in relevant negotiations.
He said that under the premise of Serbia's "unchanged border," Kosovo would be allowed "a high degree of political autonomy."
Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in February 2008, with the support of some Western countries including Austria. Serbia has refused to recognize Kosovo's independence, which has also failed to win wide recognition across the world.
