Limdal: EULEX gathering evidence involving yellow house

EULEX Spokesperson Karin Limdal has said that this European Union mission has information about the existence of the so-called yellow house and a camp in northern Albania, where kidnapped Serbs were allegedly tortured and murdered, and that prosecutors are gathering new information in order to establish whether there is sufficient evidence to launch an investigation into the matter.

Speaking for Deutsche Welle, Limdal said EULEX is still not conducting an official investigation. Once all the data are collected a decision will be made about possibly opening an investigation, she specified.

This type of crime cannot be solved without regional cooperation, she pointed out, and EULEX Chief Yves de Kermabon is travelling in the region and initiating cooperation.

The Serbian Office of the War Crimes Prosecutor maintains that war crimes have been committed in the yellow house and other camps in northern Albania against Serbs previously abducted from Kosovo.

It is extimated that large numbers of persons were tortured and murdered in these camps, and that their organs were subsequently harvested and sold.
