Gasparovic said Slovakia, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2006 and 2007, was doing its best to contribute to the coordination of interests of the sides in the negotiations, but that it does not accept that the province should get full independence.

In Ljubljana, Slovenian and Norwegian Prime Ministers Janez Jansa and Jens Stoltenberg agreed that the solution to the Kosovo issue needs to be as coordinated as much as possible between Belgrade and Pristina.

According to Jansa, the complex situation renders it impossible to find the best solution.

"But we are in favour of the second-best solution, which would have maximum support on both sides and bring long-term stability", he said.

In Sofia, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin said his country had always endeavored to create a positive atmosphere of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.

A positive atmosphere of dialogue between the two parties to the conflict would facilitate dialogue and the finding of a compromise solution which would have a sustained positive effect on the entire Balkans, he said after meeting Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov.
