Lajcak: UN should have decided on Kosovo, not individual states
Slovakia hasn't recognised the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo, as this step was done without agreement with Serbia and by violating provisions as set by international law, Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak said in London.

Speaking at a conference focused on self-determination and territorial integrity, Lajcak pointed out that in the case of Kosovo the principle that self-determination relates only to nations and not ethnic minorities was violated. The minister also said that it is simply "hard to accept" that the decision on the selection of the prevalent legal principle between self-determination and territorial integrity was made by individual states and not the United Nations Security Council.
"We haven't accepted the unilaterally declared independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia for the same reasons," said Lajcak.
