Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel said in Belgrade on Wednesday that Slovenia would not make any unilateral moves when Kosovo was concerned, and would harmonize its position with those of the other EU members.

The foreign minister of Slovenia, which is to take over the rotating EU presidency as of January 1, 2008, voiced his support for the talks run by the Contact Group's mediating troika.

Rupel also said he believed the EU would be united on the matter, adding that Slovenia would do everything to make sure stands were not divided over the future status of Kosovo.

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, during his meeting with Rupel, said that recognizing Kosovo's unilateral independence would equal "the violent annulment of the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1244."

"If a country dares to openly oppose the U.N.'s authority and, contrary to the binding Resolution 1244, acknowledges unilateral independence, from that moment on there will be no more guarantees that U.N. resolutions have to be implemented," Kostunica said.

The prime minister went on to say that Serbia "in advance and completely dismisses the province's unilateral independence as a void act of the Albanian separatists."

He added that a solution for the province must be found within the Resolution 1244, which explicitly guaranteed Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as essential autonomy for the Albanian minority in the province.
