The ministry urges a two-way return acceptable to both sides and notes that the unilateral decision on reconstruction of houses in Brdjani without approval by local Serbs only makes the situation more difficult and finding a compromise harder.

„KFOR and EULEX should exert additional endeavors to start talks  with both Kosovo Serbs and Albanians, as the present situation cannot be resolved using tear gas", a ministry release says.

Serbia expects international civilian and military presence to secure the necessary conditions for the return of Serbs to their ancestral homes, the release says.

On Tuesday, Serbs from Kosovska Mitrovica called on Belgrade officials to meet with Eulex and Kfor to resolve peacefully the situation in Brdjani, which escalated in violence following Serb protests against the reconstruction of Albanian returnee houses without prior agreement.
