Serbian President Boris Tadic said on Wednesday that Kosovo's membership in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is not "good news, but that it is not tragic".

"Kosovo's IMF membership can hardly be prevented, but this does not imply that Kosovo has become an independent state and there is no doubt about that," Tadic said.

The Serbian President stated that countries gain their independence and are internationally acknowledged only when they become UN members.

"We are fighting the battle for preserving our country's integrity primarily in the UN institutions and before the International Court of Justice and we will always be against the independence of Kosovo," Tadic underscored.
