Steinmeier: Military presence in Kosovo still essential
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has called for a prolongation of the mandate of the German soldiers in Kosovo, assessing that in spite of the progress that has been made, military presence was still essential.

Steinmeier pointed out that one should not ignore the fact that, in the meantime, "Serbia's attitude had become more prudent and the country was making effort not to add fuel to the flames", the German Foreign Ministry stated on its website.
Ethic tensions are still evident in the Balkans, but the ghost of war has been expelled, and this is the most important thing, Steinmeier said at the Bundestag, the lower house of the German parliament.
