Kosovo Serbs urge EULEX to drop decision on customs

The president of the Serb-populated municipality of Leposavic, in northern Kosovo, Jovan Miladinovic requested from EULEX customs representatives to suspend the one-sided decision on traffic control in the administrative line crossing with central Serbia, with the warning that EULEX will bear the responsibility for possible consequences.

Miladinovic stated that the citizens informed him that EULEX, by directing trucks to customs terminal in southern Kosovska Mitrovica, begins to charge customs duties and other taxes to the goods entering Kosovo rom central Serbia.

In view of this situation, as he explained, he received more than 100 phone calls from citizens, businessmen and economic associations.

The Leposavic Municipal Assembly supports citizens' disatisfaction considering the fact that the charging of taxes began without consultations with the local self-government in northern Kosovo, which opposes the earlier reached agreements with the UN representatives, Miladinovic stated.

He said that he will not be able to prevent citizens' and businessmen protests over the action of EULEX customs.
