Schroeder: Recognition of Kosovo was a "grave mistake"
Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder says that the recognition of Kosovo's unilateral independence declaration was a "grave mistake"

"The recognition of Kosovo was premature and conditioned by great pressure from the former American administration", Schoreder told the Belgrade weekly NIN.
"Today, we can see that two-thirds of the international community does not recognize Kosovo ... this shows that we are talking about a grave mistake", the former chancellor said.
Schroeder, who was at Germany's helm during the bombings of Serbia in 1999, said he still believes the NATO intervention was "correct" as it was a "common European decision".
"I am nevertheless concious that it has brought much suffering to many people", he admitted.
