"I fully understand Serbia's insistence that its membership in the EU should not mean its dismemberment ... this is quite natural and every other country would do it. No state can agree to the breach of its territorial integrity. Serbia has to ask from the EU guarantess for the respect of its territorial integrity", Chevènement told KosovoCompromise.
Chevènement, who opposed the NATO bombings in 1999 and the recognition of Kosovo's secession in 2008, said the act of Kosovo Albanians was « a precedent ».
"I am in favor of the respect of international law, of the UN SC resolution 1244, of the respect for the territorial integrity of Serbia", he said.
"It is difficult for me to imagine an opinion of the International Court of Justice which would be contrary to resolution 1244 and the bases of international law", Chevènement argued.
"There must be talks. There is no other way", the French senator said.
