Spanish ambassador: New negotiations for a Kosovo compromise

‘Spain wants a compromise solution between Serbia and Kosovo to be found. Many of our partners in the EU want the same, a dialogue that would lead to a mutual solution, applicable and sustainable in life', says Ignacio de Palacio Espana, Ambassador of Spain, the country that undertook the EU Presidency as of January 2010.

In an interview with the Belgrade daily Blic, Ambassador Palacio Espana said that Serbia can get a candidate status for the EU membership even without Kosovo problem definitely solved, especially because Spain has not recognized unilaterally proclaimed independence.

He points out support to the idea by Belgrade over opening of a dialog with Pristina after completion of the process before the International Court of Justice over legality of Kosovo independence.

‘It would be really a paradox that Serbia that is making efforts in finding a solution through a dialogue and wanting negotiations is punished and stopped on its path towards European integration', the Spanish Ambassador says.
