The institutions supported by the Government of Serbia in Kosovo are illegal and are not part of UN Resolution 1244, Kfor commander Marcus Bentler said.

"We are aware of the parallel structures but this problem is up to the political and international leadership", says Bentler.

He added that Kfor was "trying to avoid worsening the situation in the future".

Belgrade institutions are a lifeline for the Kosovo Serbs living in enclaves and in northern Kosovo. The Kosovo Albanian leadership is seeking to close them and install its own control.
