Irish Foreign Minister Dermot Ahern in Belgrade on Thursday said that it was important to find a compromise solution for Kosovo through the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.

He underscored that the dialogue should not be limited, but should focus on reaching the best solution that would ensure regional stability.

In a conversation with Ahern, Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said that the proposal to resolve Kosovo's status in accordance with the Hong Kong solution was a significant step for Serbia's part toward finding a compromise, sustainable and functional solution.

Kostunica also said that in its further activities Serbia would strongly insist on this solution, because it ensured the protection of Serbia's essential state and national interests, while also catering to the essential interests of the ethnic Albanian minority in the province.

Serbian President Boris Tadic acquainted the Irish minister with the course of the talks on Kosovo's future status, and said that with its presentation in the November 5 Vienna talks the Serbian delegation had once again demonstrated its resolve to reach a mutually-acceptable solution.
