KEK urges Serbs not to pay bills

Kosovo electric company KEK, which cut off Serbian consumers in the north of the province, has urged them not to pay their bills to EPS, Serbia's public power enterprise, which several months ago stepped in and started providing electricity after KEK cut them off.

Now KEK says EPS is doing its business in Kosovo "illegally".

"Based on the legal and regulatory framework from 2004, KEK is the only licensed operator for the whole territory of Kosovo. No other subject has been licensed to conduct any kind of activity," a statement from the company said.

"Therefore, consumers in Kosovo should not make payments to Elektrokosmet or EPS, and should ignore the bills they received, and all other bills they will receive from Elektrokosmet/EPS," said KEK.
