Belgrade: EU mission in Kosovo possible only on the basis of a UN Security Council resolution
Belgrade has warned on Friday that a EU mission can deploy in Kosovo only on the basis of a UN Security Council resolution which would emanate from an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina on the future status of the province.

"This is a delicate moment in the Kosovo process and great care is required in taking any steps. It is important that everything that is done has a clear legitimacy, and that is possible only through the reaching of consensus and its confirmation by the UN Security Council", Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic told a press conference held on the occasion of the end of Serbia's Presidency of the Council of Europe (CoE) Ministerial Committee.
Asked whether Serbia would agree to the UN Mission in Kosovo province being replaced with an EU mission, for which a public competition has been called, Jeremic pointed out that the situation in the province is regulated through UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
Any changes in the institutional form, manner of administration, or security parameters must be made in a way that no-one can ever question them, Jeremic said, pointing out that the only way for that is for the UN Security Council explicitly to declare itself on that issue.
