Belgrade rejects the 1972 German model

The solution for the future status of Kosovo cannot be inspired by the model of East and West Germany dating from 1972, adviser to Serbian Prime Minister Srdjan Djuric said Monday.

"The U.N. Security Council Resolution 1244 makes no mention of independence or relations between two independent states," Djuric said, following announcements from diplomatic sources that the international mediating troika could in the next round of Kosovo talks, scheduled for November 20 in Brussels, present concrete ideas, including the possibility of "inspiring" the future relations between Serbia and Kosovo by the relations between two Germanies.

The adviser pointed out that Resolution 1244 guaranteed Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and essential autonomy for Kosovo, hence the solution for the future status of the province "can only be sought based on these clear coordinates, defined by the U.N. resolution".
