Macedonia: Four members of an armed Kosovo Albanian extremist gang killed in the conflict with the police

The Macedonian Interior Ministry has confirmed that four members of an armed Kosovo Albanian extremist gang were killed in conflict with the police, near the village of Radus, on the border between Macedonia and Serbia, in the part towards Kosovo.

The police stated their members had intercepted a van yesterday, transporting weapons.

The persons in the van ignored the request of the police to stop the vehicle, but opened fire.

In the conflict, which lastted until 3 am, four members of the criminal gang were killed and no policemen were killed or injured, Macedonian Interior Minister specifies.

Two weeks ago, the Macedonian police found near the village of Blace, towards Kosovo, four shelters with weapons. In the armed conflict that ensued then, one of the gang members was injured and others fled to Kosovo, after which the Kosovo police announced it had arrested seven people suspected of being members of the Kosovo Albanian extremist group ONA, which claimed responsibility for the incident several days later.

The police established that the announcement sent to national TV ALSAT-M in Skopje by e-mail was sent from Switzerland.
