Tadic calls on the UN SC to condemn the bomb attack on Serbs in Kosovska Mitrovica

Serbian President Boris Tadic called on the UN Security Council to condemn bomb attack on Serbs in Kosovska Mitrovica and warned that Belgrade would reconsider relations with international forces deployed in Kosovo if that does not happen.

‘We appealed on the international community to prevent that what happened on Friday happens ever again. It should also see that illegal office in the Northern Mitrovica remains closed', Tadic pointed out at extraordinary session of the UN SC dedicated to the situation in Kosovo.

Tadic reminded that about 3,000 Kosovo Serbs gathered on Friday to protest against ‘severe violation of the UN SC Resolution 1244' and an attempt by Albanian authorities to open Kosovo Government's office in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica.

He added that two bombs were thrown at them from yards belonging to ethnic Albanians.

‘That was done on purpose to increase inter-ethnic tensions and sabotage efforts in finding a sustainable peace. That is yet another destructive consequence of a dark plan partly supported by the so-called International civil office led by Peter Feith that intended to unilaterally enforce illegal and undesired regime in a part of our province', Tadic said.

‘That is in contrast not only with what Kosovo Serbs want, but the work of the UNMIK and EULEX as well. It is also in contrast with decisions by the UN SC since these institutions have never recognized the so-called Ahtisaari's plan and unilateral independence', Serbian President said.

‘Ethnic Albanian authorities should be told what consequences they shall be faced with should they exercise unilateral moves again. If not, Serbia shall have no other option but to reconsider its relations with international forces deployed in the province', Tadic said.

‘Allow me to be clear: regardless of differences over unilateral independence, everyone who fails to condemn unilateral acting of any kind in Kosovo, as Serbia has done, shall be responsible for future violence, victims and terrorist acts in the province', Tadic pointed out.

Serbian President also said that unilateral independence, regardless of some who do not want to hear it, cannot lead to peace and stability. According to him it only led to division within the international community and reconsidering of the basic principles of the international system.

‘The only way to introduce stability in Kosovo is full implementation of the UN Secretary General's plan in six points which, to remind you, was unanimously accepted by the UN SC in November of 2008. I also want to remind you that the case of unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo is presently being considered by the International Court of Justice', Tadic said.
