Serbian President: Kosovo is not and cannot be a state

After the debate in the UN SC, Serbian President Boris Tadic said Kosovo was not a state and had no sovereignty, which is not only the stand of Belgrade, but of most UN member-states.

It is clear to everybody that neither Belgrade nor Kosovo Serbs want the so-called international civilian office, as they believe such a move represents an open provocation, which does not contribute to stability in the region.

Regretting the fact that the USA and other Western states have supported the foundation of the office, he said Serbia, despite past events, would continue applying  the policy of peace.

He said there is a fundamental difference between a sovereign country, such as Serbia, and provisional authorities in Pristina, including the fact that Belgrade is trying perpetrators of crimes, whereas Pristina authorities do not.

No one has been arrested for the pogrom against Serbs in March 2004 nor has anyone answered for ethnic cleansing, he said. He stressed it was necessary to reach compromise on the status of Kosovo, adding no solution can be reached if one side wins and the other loses it all.
